Thoughts on Ace Attorney 5 Coming to the West as a Download Only Title
Apparently, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game, Ace Attorney 5 will be releasing on the eShop.
No physical release.
Capcom confirms that Ace Attorney 5 will be released in North America this fall. Now titled, Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, the game marks the return of the Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright himself on the courtroom. Apollo Justice also returns to the series along with updated graphics, 3D locations, and the new heart scope system. What’s not coming is, well, a retail version of the game.
+Christian Svensson stated the following in the Capcom forums as the reason for opting to go for the eShop:
“Historically it’s been tough to attract long term retail support for Ace Attorney titles. With the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies we wanted as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the game for as long as possible.”
Capcom has not yet announced a price point for Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies. Will the price be the same as if it was released in retail? Or a slightly lower one? We’ll have to wait for that.
Reaction Time
As for me, I have not expected this at all. You know what, I was really expecting that Capcom will release Ace Attorney 5 BOTH on the 3DS and iOS devices. In that way, I think more people will purchase the game. And perhaps when they find out that more people buys on the 3DS, then perhaps they’ll release future titles on the device. The same can be said when sales are big on the iPhone. But of course, the 3DS is the logical choice. It looks like the game needs 3D to operate, especially during examination of murder locations, etc.
But Capcom is a big company. They are not Atlus or XSeed (or Marvelous, the creator of Senran Kagura, I wrote about the topic of localization before) who can settle with less than 100,000 in sales. Capcom is big, hence their expenses are also big. They do not operate small. And I think, mass producing the game in retail will entail more cost that doing that on the eShop. When they released it there, they do not have to worry about all those stuff involved when distributing retail games.
As for Ace Attorney fans out there such as myself, while it sucks that there won’t be a retail version of this game, we don’t have a choice. I am perfectly fine with the fact that I will be able to play another Ace Attorney game. This perfectly works for me. I hope the same goes for you.
What are your thoughts about this one?

Ace Attorney 5 Trailer Highlights HeartScope System and Crime Scene Investigations
Heads up! A brand new Ace Attorney 5 trailer for the Nintendo 3DS appears from the wild featuring the game’s new heart scope system and how crime scenes are investigated in 3D. Actually, the trailer debuted at the 2nd Nico Nico Chou Kaigi event that happened in Japan. Check out the trailer below:
While the trailer briefly discussed the history of the Ace Attorney series, it proceeds immediately to a brief sneak peek of Ace Attorney 5. We saw some familiar faces. Phoenix is in blue coat. There’s Kidzuki Kokone, the unnamed character we mentioned before. Apollo Justice returns to the courtroom. Winston Payne’s younger brother also makes an appearance.
Gameplay-wise, we saw brief how the heart scope system works. The player needs to point out the inconsistency between the witness’ testimony and his emotion. This suggests a contradiction that can be further pressed by Phoenix Wright. Also, were you able to see how the crime scene can be examined in different angles? I bet it can greatly make use of the 3DS’s 3D capability to display erring objects that can be the evidence we need to solve a trial. :)
Ace Attorney 5 is coming to Japan this year on July 25, 2013. No release date was announced outside Japan, but it’s certain that the game will be localized in English. No word yet for Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2. Level-5 is also mum about the Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton Crossover game.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf Highlights Tom Nook and Leif
The Nintendo 3DS Facebook page has been featuring characters that will appear on Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game on June 9, 2013. Take a look at some of them after the break!
The picture above is the character Leif. Leif is a sloth(?) that runs the new gardening center in town. He has a green thumb since he knows how to grow flowers.
The character above is Tom Nook. If you have played Animal Crossing: Wild World on the Nintendo DS, then this guy is familiar to you. According the 3DS FB page, Tom Nook has a brand new business. He is now running a shop focused on Real Estate. If you need renovation services, Tom Nook is the guy to go to. Of course, it’ll come with a price!
Previously, we featured the character Isabelle, the player’s assistant. Check out the previous post about her here.
Animal Crossing has been out in Japan since last year. The game gets a 39/40 score in Famitsu. It’ll come to North America on June 9. 2013.

“Flying Fairy” in Bravely Default’s Title Might Be Too Feminine For the Male Oriented 3DS?
I think you have already read it somewhere. After months of pleading, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is coming to North America. Come 2014, we’ll finally be able to play this Square Enix RPG on our Nintendo 3DS systems. Hey, who’s not happy that it’s coming? No one! However, only one question remains: What will be Bravely Default’s title when it comes to the west?
The answer? Still Bravely Default.
However, that’s just it. Only Bravely Default without the “Flying Fairy” part. I wonder why. We know whw Bravely Default is an essential title. It’s the name of the game’s core battle system. (Check out this post to learn more).
Perhaps Nintendo thinks Flying Fairy can be stripped from the game’s title. Maybe they think those two words are just a waste of space.
Or maybe they think the title’s too feminine. Remember that the 3DS’s audience is generally young males. I’m guessing here that the company’s line of thinking is that the words “Flying Fairy” might give a connotation that the game’s an RPG for female gamers. Of course, it’s not. Remember when Disney changed their movie’s title from “Rapunzel” to “Tangled”. Perhaps this is a business decision that can impact sales.
For the record I am not trying to bash anyone here. >.<I myself do not care if it will be called Bravely Default, or Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, or whatever random name Nintendo comes up with. What matters to me is that the game’s coming. That’s just it.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Gets a Sequel
Fresh from the latest Nintendo Direct is none other than a brand new Legend of Zelda game. As a 3DS blog, and as a Zelda fan, we have the responsibility, no, the will, to discuss this brand new game set in the world of Hyrule - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2. The game apparently takes place on the same world as A Link to the Past. Here’s a trailer:
Eiji Aonuma, the guy responsible for Zelda games, has admitted that this specific Zelda game has been in the works since 2011. If that is true, then Nintendo really made this a top-secret! Anyway, he also mentioned that there were talks inside Nintendo about restructuring a 2D-Zelda game into 3D. I think, there were reports before that Miyamoto wants A Link to the Past in 3D. Perhaps, this is what he’s really hinting at that time!
It is worth noting that “2” in the title only appears in the Japanese Nintendo Direct.

How To View Miiverse on PC and SmartPhones
Nintendo will now let us access the Wii U’s Miiverse on our computers. It can also be accessed on smartphones. Check out this link:
http://bit.ly/17UOM0J
This Miiverse on PC feature is still on beta. That means some of the features of the social network are still not present. Actually, I think the only feature available is that people can browse the social network on the computer. It kind of reminds me of Instagram’s desktop site.
If you want to create a Miiverse account, you can do that on the Wii U.
Okay. I know Miiverse is currently for the Wii U only. But hey, the social network’s coming to the Nintendo 3DS soon. Nintendo said that, didn’t they? The 3DS has a Mii maker. It has a Mii Plaza. I think it will be stupid if the feature won’t come to the handheld at some point.

This Animal Crossing: New Leaf Character Gives Advice to the Town Mayor
The Nintendo 3DS Facebook page will be introducing Animal Crossing: New Leaf characters in the coming days and weeks. Of course, this is in anticipation for the upcoming release of the game in North America. And N-Handhelds, your 3DS blog will be covering it extensively.
Further reads: Is Animal Crossing for You? and How Animal Crossing and Its Social Aspect Can Entice People to Buy Games
The first character that was introduced was Isabelle (Picture above). She’ll be like your assistant (sort of). You are the mayor of the town, and Isabelle will be your right-hand. She’ll be the one the mayor should turn into. Why? Because she’ll give advice regarding customization and how to manage the town.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is coming to North America on June 9. 2013.
You can buy Animal Crossing: New Leaf at Play-Asia! Please check out the game there. Big thanks!

Nintendo 3DS XL Pink is Coming to UK, Europe
Nintendo 3DS colors are abundant. The same is true with Nintendo 3DS XL colors and variants. Now coming to the United Kingdom is a brand new color for the 3DS XL - Pink.
Even if you’re a guy, you have to admit how fancy the handheld looks with with the color pink in it. Also, notice how this looks slightly different with other pink 3DS variants that have been available before. The pink here is more stronger. Perfect for the ladies and the young at heart. I’ll consider buying one for myself just because it is cute. Hey, my guy friend has a pink Nintendo DS and no one’s complaining!
The Nintendo 3DS XL - Pink is coming to the United Kingdom on May 31. It looks like it’s coming to the whole of Europe as well.
Also, you can also buy a special Nintendo 3DS variant at Play-Asia! If you buy there or visit the link, you are also supporting this website. Big thanks!
